Visit Ritchey’s Dairy, “Products fresh from the farm to you”, including many delicious ice cream flavors made on their premises.
Visit any of the local greenhouses. We recommend checking out Piney Creek Greenhouse. They have birds and, especially in winter, it feels like a tropical oasis. There are also several more in the area, including Brubaker’s and Spring Farm.
Morrison’s Cove Memorial Park offers skating and bowling year round.
Visit Peach Hill, a Mennonite-run establishment that has lots of produce, and baked goods on Friday and Saturdays.
Friend’s Farm is a working co-op farm. She has markets on Saturdays from 9-3 April through Thanksgiving with wonderful fresh baked goods, as well as seasonal produce. In addition, during the daylight hours of the weeks of those months she has a self-serve market with more limited items like jams, cheeses, and frozen things. She also allows you to walk around her small farm and see what a working farm is like.
Clover Creek Cheese Cellar is open daylight hours for self-serve cheese made on site (bruschetta is our favorite, but they are all wonderful!). They also have grass-fed ground beef, beef patties, and some steaks and roasts in the freezer as it’s available.
Spring Dam- Turn right on East Main and then left at the stop sign. Follow that till you see a train station on your right and then turn left. The Dam is on your right. It has a fountain, and ducks and fish.
Enjoy walking or biking the Lower Trail, a 16 mile rail trail starting near Historic Alexandria and ending near Canoe Creek State Park. The trail runs parallel to the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River, and while enjoying the beautiful scenery, you can also experience some history. (Pictured)
If you need or want it, Nolt’s Bargain Barn will have it! Lots of antiques and “yard sale” type items, including a whole top floor of furniture. They also have a separate shop of just Amish made kinds of things.
Shop your heart out at The Village Closet, a thrift and country store
JB Tree Farm has seasonal activities such as picking pumpkins and hayrides in the fall, and Christmas tree and shopping in the winter.
Blue Barn Farm offers a variety of small fruits and vegetables for you to pick, including blueberries, raspberries, beans, and squash. Availability depends on weather and season.
